"The intertwining underground rail systems of various countries are reduced to limp tangles in Ulrike Solbrig’s Subway Maps. Each station notches up a knot on the string that represents the line of the train, with interchanging stations being points where the different strings are knotted together. The links between the lines and the relationships of depth can be interpreted in a three dimensional and tactile way, only the scale is at fault as the nature of the schematised map does not relate directly to any reality of depth of train."
