The Land Foundation
Was initiated by Rirkrit Tiravanija and Kamin Letchaiprasert as a
self-sustaining environment emerging from the artistic community. The
land is located in the northern part of Thailand, near the village of
Sanpathong, 20 km southwest from the provincial city of Chiang Mai. It
is cultivated as an open space or community, free from ownership, that
facilitates open discussions and experimentation in the fields of
culture and ecology. The land is open to the day-to-day activities
of the local population (i.e. the growing of rice) and to the
neighboring community. In the social realm, artistic practices are
discussed and tested. This project, a hybrid of innovation and
traditionalism, interfaces contemporary materials and technologies with
ancient forms of agriculture.

Sørfinnset skole
was initiated by the Norwegian artists Søssa Jørgensen
and Geir Tore Holm, inspired by the the Land foundation. Both in
Thailand and in Nordland, the emphasis is placed on exchange,
involvement and experimentation within a sustainable development
context. The shut down village school house of Sørfinnset,
a village of 70 inhabitants in the municipality of
Gildeskål, is reopened to serve as the hub for a number of
cultural activities, uniting local and international expertise.
Sørfinnset skole/the nord land merges resources, traditions and
experience, and will serve as a center for hands-on efforts. In
collaboration with Sørfinnset Residents’ Association, two
Norwegian and two Thai artists will run the house as a meeting place
and an idea workshop.

ecosXchange/Siraj Izhar
ecosXchange/Siraj Izhar are producing a prototype of a complementary
cultural currency that was initiated at ecos : international convention
on eco-creation at Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation in
Rezé, Nantes. As a currency 'ecosXchange' is conceived as
a strategy of extracting the means of cultural production out of
processes that have a functioning (not a representational or polemical)
relationship to ecology: i.e. creating a system of exchange value
between cultural production and ecologic process. Siraj Izhar works
with strategies of culturally mediated forms of
market circulation emerging from the
new realities of 'parallel' economies in the digital de-regulated
world.

Amy Plant/lifeisland.org is a support website for Manor Gardening
Society Allotments in Hackney Wick, whose future is in jeopardy due to
pending eviction from the current site. The allotments have ended up
surrounded by the planned Olympic Park in relation to the London
Olympics. The landscape designers for the areas between stadia (stadia
is correct but usually I see stadiums. Poor Latin students, I guess.)
have not taken into account the existence of the allotments.

workstation ideenwerkstatt Berlin e. V. was realized as an
intervention of the Viennese artist group WochenKlausur -
www.wochenklausur.at - in the Spring of 1998. It offers mental and
physical space, know how and diverse forms of support for people to
develop their personal and social goals. workstation assumes that the
traditional labor for money is not the only measure for a functioning
social structure and thus motivates people, to think about and engage
in different and alternative forms of labor and occupation, which often
results in a changed and empowering of self-esteem.

Body-Memory and Environment: The body’s sensual and concrete
existence as microcosms, intimately connected and interwoven with the
macrocosmos. Can we regain knowledge of our senses and connectedness
with nature in our every-day-life? Anna Barth studied modern dance,
improvisation and composition with Alvin Nikolais and Murray Louis in
New York. She went on to study for several years in Japan with Kazuo
Ohno, master and co-founder of Butoh. Anna Barth has developed a distinct
dance and body language which questions and reflects on the existential
condition and thriving forces of the human experience and
consciousness.
In the project Potato Perspective, visual artist Åsa Sonjasdotter
is investigating relations between common and private, migration and
normalization, diversity and ecology through the perspective of a
potato.
